The best FASHION photographer in SA...Kevin Mark Pass!

Hello Journeyers,

Today I have a biggie in store for you all! As all of you know I've started this monthly interview thing where I try and get into the minds of people who's busy making a name for themselves in the world.
And this person has done it over and over. You constantly see his work on SA celebs Facebook pages, Tweets or Insta-pics.
I honestly love his work. The way he manages to capture and bring out the beauty in already beautiful people  is mind blowing.
South African born, Kevin Mark Pass, who spent most of his young adult life travelling is one to watch. He traveled 6 continents before the age of 21. Halfway through his travels he realised that he couldn't remember any of the places he's been too and then bought a camera. And the rest you can say is history....

"Self portrait of Kevin. Documenting the passing of time."
JS: Thank you very much for giving me a moment out of you busy schedule.
KMP: No problem, you're welcome.

JS: Your passion for photography started at a rather young age, if you think back, did you ever think you will be where you are today?
KMP: It didn't start at a too young age, especially the Fashion part of Photography happened unplanned. I never planned to be a Photographer, never planned to be a Fashion Photographer, never planned to be a professional Full time Photographer, it all just sort of happened. So by the time I got to where I am now, it's been such a whirlwind thing that I didn't really have time to think about or plan it. It all just happened. It's taken about 10 years to get to here but as I said, it wasn't planned and I was more like "WOW! HOW DID IT HAPPEN?" apposed to I've finally achieved my dream.
JS: In fact it was more like you "fell" into Photography then?
KMP: That's right, I've never studied Photography, read books on Photography, gone for courses or worked with other photographers. It's very much a natural, organic thing that happened. I used to take pictures at friends weddings and would then give them the black and white roll of film in the little plastic container as a wedding gift, because I didn't really have money for wedding presents. And then people started paying me to do weddings and a decade later I'm a Fashion Photographer.

JS: Would you say your independence and travelling played a big part in your passion and the way you appreciate and see life?
KMP: Absolutely. I don't believe I saw anybody until I started travelling, and I mean that in a philosophical sense. I don't believe until I traveled and went through some really dark periods of time by myself. It took a lot of soul searching and many years of pining to come back to South Africa, many years of being alone and I think about 30-40 International flights within a 3-4 year period all by myself. And that's when I started to appreciate how beautiful people are, how incredible people are. My love is not for
Photography, it can never be documented that way. My love is for people. Photography is just the way I
appreciate and document people.

JS: Your love for people comes through in your photos. Do you believe in the expression “A picture is worth a 1000 words?”
KMP: Yes, but I've never thought about this question. It’s a different 1000 words for every person that
looks at the picture. People don’t realize that so much of what we perceive in a photographer is what we see
on the photo. Each person that looks at a  photo will have a different reaction to it. People don’t always
understand how subjective photos are. Its really about who's looking at the photo. Like there's another
saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Like some people will say I'm a great photographer and others will say I'm a horrible photographer, and they are both equally correct. It’s a personal feeling.

JS: What goals are you working towards within photography and when will you know when you have achieved it?
KMP: Ahhh I will never reach my goals in photography. (you hear the small excited and happy voice in the background, his son came running to him as he saw him stop at the house) I have massive goals in photography and things I want to shoot for and images I want to take, celebrities I want to get in my book. But its never ending, its not really something I can achieve. Maybe one day when I'm 70 I will realize I did achieve it but nothing I can set down on black and white for you now.

JS: What would you say is your most prized possession?
KMP: My family. Possessions mean nothing. Physical things mean nothing. People mean something.

JS: That’s great, you can see your love for your son (now sons) and wife is amazing. What in your eyes makes a good photographer?
KMP: Someone who understands and loves life and someone who loves and understands whatever they
photograph. If you photograph babies you need to love and understand life and babies, same for wildlife
photography and ect ect. The technical ability of a camera is a distant third compared to those 2 things.

JS: What is your proudest achievement to date as a Photographer and in life?
KMP: I don’t know about photography as I look forward and not backwards, I don’t really pat myself on
the back too often. And in life. Being married and being a farther.

JS: You have worked with some impressive names in South Africa. How does that make you feel? (And this was my favorite answer)
KMP: It makes me feel honored that they trusted me but they are just people so I'm honored that they
trusted me in taking their photos. For celebrities what are captured of them can make or break their
careers. The fact that they have trusted me makes me feel very grateful but they are just people. So the
amount of pressure on them to choose a photographer is far higher when they are well known so I take that as a big compliment.

JS: That is enough business questions I think. I want to know your most memorable holiday memory?
KMP: First thing that pops into my brain is Spain with my then fiance now wife. We actually got engaged on
that holiday in Spain. And I can mention a bunch of other holidays but that’s the one that stands out the

And that sums up the talented Mr. Kevin Mark Pass.
My prayers go out to you and your family for the loss of your baby boy.

Thank you again Kevin for giving me your time. You are a kind hearted, humble person and it was great getting to know you a bit better!
Till next time!

Durban - Ile Maurice Restaurant plus all good things happen in 3's!

Hello Journeyers!
What did I tell you in last weeks post? All good things happen in 3's.
And I was right! YESSS!
Yesterday while scrolling through my FB page I noticed that the winner of a Blog Comp I entered was announced. I was extremely excited to see that because I was really hoping that I would win this one.
And as I frantically searched for the name of this winner I at first completely misread my name, yes excitement must have blurred my vision a bit. But after a second look I saw my name staring back at me!

3rd win in a week! That's what I like to see. And as I know my luck, the next thing I will win will be by the time I'm 6 feet under the ground. Therefore I am taking these 3 wins ALL innnn. Savoring every moment of it!

Now just to wait for the goodies to arrive. The suspense is killing me! :)

So thank you to Clarita Smit for choosing me for the Lush Hamper! I really cannot thank you enough!

Image thanks to Google

And as mentioned in yesterdays post, I was going to share with you a very yummy experience we had in Umhlanga.
Cedric told us about a Mauritian Restaurant that he has been wanting to visit for a while. And it's understandable as it's his culture and he obviously misses it. So we said if there's one thing we HAVE to do over that weekend, it's going to be to go to this restaurant!
If you see this sign, STOP and book a table! ASAP!
We phoned the Sunday around lunch time to make a booking, as we were not sure how busy they can get.
I was very excited to have Mauritian food again. All of us were ready by 6:30 and ready to go indulge ourselves.
My mommy and I.
As we arrived at the Restaurant we were welcomed with friendly faces and experienced staff.
They came to tell us about the specials and I immediately knew what I will be having.
I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I am a sucker for a good Butternut soup! And that was their soup of they day. They had a crab soup too that sounded delicious but I was planning to have crab as my mains.
My mother and Marius.
My Boo and I.
Table photo's! Love them! :)
Cedric and Marius both ordered curries, Cedric a Octopus Curry and Marius a Chicken and Prawn Curry. It looked divine!
My mother had the Sea bass with veggies.
Gratin de Crabe
Poisson du Jour
The Menu.
The big sign painted outside the restaurant! Cannot miss it!
We ended off the night with yummy desert and a coffee and off to the couch it was for some golf!
What a great way to ending our last night on holiday.
Thank you Ile Maurice Restaurant!

If you find yourself in the Umhanlga area or even live there. Please go visit them!

Next time I would love to go there during the day. Just to experience the view too. :)

Have a great day everyone!

I bow my head in shame!

I know I know I have been extremely quiet the last 2 weeks!
It was just crazy and I have very quickly come to realise that blogging is a almost 24/7 job! But I enjoy it and that's the most important!
I hope all of you have been doing great! :)
I have so much that I still want to share with you guys, so I better get my act together and do it! No more lazy days for meeee!
So yes, as all of you know LAST weekend was a LONG weekend for us! Yay!
I am very sad that I wasn't able to spend the Sunday which was Fathers day with my daddy. But he was in my thoughts the whole day. And from the sounds of it I was in his too! Yay! :)
Back to business.
We hit the road the Friday after work on route to Umhlanga, Durban! I can actually count on 1 hand how many times I've been there so yes you can say that I was rather excited! Plus Durban is one of those places that don't have winters. So I was happy to escape the freezing cold Joburg.
Golly miss molly! Talk about bad timing. Firstly, you must know it's long weekend, which means all us Gauteng peeps sees that as a opportunity to escape the hussle and busslte of the city, and Secondly, it was the Top Gear Festival in Durban. Put those 2 things together and you get a DISASTER on the road!
We eyed the traffic and about 100km out of Harrismith we decided to do the adult thing and find a place to stay over. Cedric was very excited as he's been wanting to stay in Harrismith since 2011!
The Hotel we found to stay in.
The room. For a 3* Hotel, it was extremely neat and clean.
Our night caps before we head to bed.
Harrismith is freezing, I thought Joburg was cold. Hell no! Mistaken lady I was!
Cute wagon at the one place we stopped at.
Then we hit the road, and as the temperature started climbing from 3 to 7 to 12 degrees I could smell the fresh see breeze hitting us! Lovely! A sunny 20 degrees and we are officially on our mini long weekend holiday!
Now the relaxing can begin. We spent most of the time eating out (no wonder I picked up like 5kg's) and dodging the wind!
Beach time. Soaking up the sun!
Photoshoot time haha!
What's a holiday without some Wakaberry?
I missed you guys and cannot wait to catch up with my blogging!
But overall it was a fun weekend.
I have a yummy post about a Mauritian Restaurant we tried on our last night!
So stay tuned! :)

P.S. - Don't forget, it's the last day to place your orders in order to receive your FREE clutch. :)

Tuesdays are my FAV!

Hello Journeyers!
Well we just came back from a lovely long weekend. We went to Durban and I would honestly consider to go live there!
It's winter but we were walking around with shorts and tops! Unfair!
But yes Tuesdays have officially become my Favorite (after Fridays). Why you may ask? Well it's easy! I've been entering Blog Giveaways up to a point where I thought this is all just a big scam because I just NEVER win anything! And there on this cold winter Tuesday, I find out that I've won 2 giveaway!!! Yes 2!!!
I assume it's safe to say that Mr. Luck is on my side this week? Hmmm Lotto here I come!!!
How cool is that?

So I want to thank Lipgloss Kisses and Simply Siyaam for the amazing giveaway! You guys rock!

And then the ultimate of ultimate blog giveaways!!!!

dhum dhum dhum dhum dhum.... (drums should be playing in your head right about now)

Go over to LIVING IN YELLOW to go see what's in store for you guys!

You will notice I have been slacking with the Insta-Tuesday posts, that's only because I've been slacking Instagram. And therefore decided to do a monthly Insta-Madness Post.

I just received some of the BEST blogging news since my "career" in blogging started. Mel over at Mel's Corner let me know that she has nominated me for a Liebster Award!!!
