10 Best Memories of Paris

Hello Journeyers,

I have been daydreaming about Paris more and more lately. From listening to a colleagues stories of their recent return from Paris to watching one of my favourite movies the other night, View from The Top.

I won't lie, I have been throwing quite a few hints towards Cedric to go back. Ahhh the dream, I would love to go back.

That's why I thought I would share my 10 Favourite experiences from our holiday in Paris in 2012. I can't believe it's been 2 years already. It feels like yesterday.

1. Eiffel Tower,

This one needs no explanation. I couldn't wait while we were driving to the apartment to spot the Eiffel Tower, and when I did I was in awe an basically freaked out when I saw the top of it peeking over the buildings. It's spectacular and something you don't get used to. In the 10 days we spent there I couldn't wait to see this beauty every single day.

2. The Metro.

Let's just say if South Africa's transport system was like this I wouldn't be needing my car.

3. The City.

There's so much to see and do in Paris, and around every corner it just gets better and better. The beauty of this city should almost be illegal. I doubt I will ever be able to get tired of those buildings. Simply spectacular.

4. Nutella Crepes.

Golly wholly, please take me back. They are not shy with throwing that Nutella onto that crepe and I literally had one a day. Wherever I could find a food stall that sold them I had one...and sometimes two.

5. Shopping up a storm - Champs Elysees

I experienced H&M, some spectacular make-up shops and bought myself a very bright summer dress for 3 Euros. Yes you read right, a full THREE! Shopping is not really that affordable but if you go when they have sales you can score some really nice things at a really great price.

6. Montmartre

I really enjoyed this part of Paris, but be careful when it comes to finding someone to do your self portraits or caricatures. Make sure you go with someone that actually has a portfolio. And shop around for prices, trust me the person 3 seats down from the one will be cheaper. You don't want to be caught like Cedric and I was with our first one. The guy turned me into a mermaid that beats Cedric the caveman.

7. Moulin Rouge

This was not something I really enjoyed that much. Mainly because I was just in a bad mood that night and then because our seats were facing away from the stage so we sat with twitchy necks from turning our heads to see the whole night. The show itself was good but rather pricey. Worth the money? I would say yes if it's really on your bucket list.

8. Macaroons

I've never again tasted Macaroons as good as the ones in Paris. They just know what they are doing. I didn't eat nearly enough of these beauties and cannot wait to go back just to devour hundreds of these.

9. Wandering the streets of Paris with Cedric by my side

Let me tell you this, it's not called the city of love for nothing. There's something about the streets and buildings and a electric feeling in the air of love when you walk the streets. What better way to do it than with the love of your life. Not to mention watching the ET light up at night while cuddling on the grass watching it.

10. SA Bar in the middle of Paris

Perfect for days where you miss home. We went to go watch a rugby match and I even had some Simba chips. I may or may not have missed SA in those few minutes. But then I walked outside and forgot all about it again.

Oh Paris how I miss you....

Paris Video! {Love}

Okay, so I had my first attempt at Windows Movie Maker after our holiday in Paris. (I cannot believe it's already been 3 months since our holiday)
And this was the end result, I also made dvd's of it and gave it to all the special people in our lives as a little souvenir! :)

{Travel} Last day in Paris!

Today (30 July 2012) is our last day in Paris and I cannot believe how fast the time flew by! Murphy sucks! Things you don't enjoy doing takes forever and things you love flies by! Oh well this is part of life and we have to start getting used to it? NOT! Who wants to get used to something like that?!

Anyway so today was filled with different emotions again, we were so sad to leave because this meant back to work and winter! But also so happy because now we can go back to driving around in our own cars and eating all the South African food that I have missed! Like boerewors and pap! Yummy! On that note I think I have to invite my mother over to make me some pap. (I suck with this, mine always burns)
We took the bus to Notre Dame to do our FINAL shopping. We bought the prettiest oil paintings and more souvenirs! I think I've spent more money on souvenirs that on food here! Oops!

We had a lovely lunch in a street across and up the road from Notre Dame.  

And each of us had something different, I had a Dagwood (Pic 1), Cedric had Mash and Sausage (Pic 2), Alan had Beef Tartar (Pic 3) and Lelande had a cheese, tomato and pesto baguette (Pic 4).

And some of the interesting cocktails they had on the menu! Hilarious!

On our way home Cedric took some pictures. :) My talented boyfriend!

After our busy day we relaxed a bit at home (which meant packing and cleaning), and went for a nice dinner at the same place as our first dinner on our first day.

And for dinner Cedric and I had the Fish of the day which was Sole and Salmon (Pic 1), Lelande had a burger, which came without a roll, haha (Pic 2) and Alan had the duck (Pic 3).

After dinner we rushed to the Eiffel Tower to watch the lights go on for the last time! That was sad because I loved doing this! 

Of course I couldn't leave Paris without having my last Nutella Crepes at the best little kiosk ever!

And the next morning we were ready and on our way at 06:30am and not looking forward to another loooong butt flight! 

After 24hours of travelling we home safely and the unpacking started, washing and cleaning and now I wish I was back at the ET. But look at ALL the souvenirs! EEEEKKK!

And this is what I leave you with, a post with a crap load of pictures to entertain yourselves. Hope you enjoyed it! Took me a while to finish but at least I kept my promise and my holiday posts are up to date! Now till the next big holiday, I will keep you happy with weekend happenings.

{Travel} Paris - Soak in the "doing nothing"

First weekend at home after our holiday and I am not looking forward to the first full week back at work! Why can't I just win the lotto??? (bet all of us are wishing this)
This weekend we did almost nothing! Friday we had a braai at home and I had a few glasses of wine. Saturday slept until 1pm (I know that's disgraceful) but much needed! Then we went to go do some grocery shopping and stayed in the evening and I had more glasses of wine! Oh my word! I didn't take any pictures of this as when I enjoy a glass of wine at home I am usually in my pajamas or scrappy clothes. (not a nice sight for all you bloggers) so I will upload one from the holiday.

Today we went to go visit my sister, Landan and her boyfriend and to look at their new apartment. Was good go see her I miss her so much when I go without seeing her for more than 2 weeks! What can I say, she's my crazy other half and I love her! (she is going to kill me when she sees this photo)

Then I know while on holiday I read that Rascals are back on the market! woohoo! Brings back a lot of good childhood memories! So when I saw it in Spar over the weekend I bought myself all the flavors. (guilty) 

And while in Abu Dhabi standing at check in I suddenly had this craving for Nando's, and today we had that for lunch! Yum! 

I know I still owe you guys my last day of holiday post, don't worry it's coming! All good things come to those who wait! 

And the reason for this Post Title is, this weekend I made sure I got as much doing nothing out of Cedric as possible, because I know from next weekend it will be busy again with fun and exciting things. (I hope)

{Travel} Paris - Caricatures in Montmartre and Date Night!

Good Morning all you lovely people!
It is Friday and I am sooo happy!!! Yes weekend has finally arrived and what better way to start it off than a cold winters day and work - NOT! haha
Anyway today I am telling you about our 8th Day in Paris! (29 July 2012) After a little drama (started by yours truly) we kicked the morning off with little sleep and one hangover! (no I am not mentioning names) We put on our pretty faces and hopped on the metro on our way to Montmartre for the day!

Once there we met up with L & A for a quick drink where a older man did our caricature but what a failure, it looked nothing like us, I was actually a bit insulted with the way he portrayed me. After that crap experience we decided to go to the people who have portfolios and we were all rather happy with how the end results of our caricatures turned out! And it is rather hilarious.

And the end result:

The picture that Cedric is holding is the insulting one, don't you think? I look like a witch! And the one I am holding is the real one! Awww I like it! haha

Then we went for lunch next to the place we had dinner at before Moulin Rouge. Yes you guessed it, for Mussels again! haha

After our yummy lunch we went to Sacre Coeur, what a beautiful place, but once again too many people! :(

and we didn't have enough energy to struggle through crowds to go inside so we admired it from the outside, and bought the cutest gifts for all the babies in our families.

On our way home, 2 blocks from the apartment to be exact, it started to rain, but was expected as it was rather chilly that day. But don't we look cute with our umbrellas? And once again we were lights out for a well deserved nap! I love my sleep and get VERY upset when I don't get enough of it!

And then my favorite part of the holiday I must say - DATE NIGHT! (hearts in my eyes and butterflies in my tummy)

Cedric and I strolled through the rainy streets of Paris on our way to finding a restaurant. We had dinner at Cafe Constant. One word! Mouthwatering! I died and went to heaven with the food I think!

So we bought the Chefs cookbook! And I know it will just sit on our shelf staring at me begging to use it! Maybe one day!
I had crab on potato salad for starters (pic 1) and Cedric had foie gras (pic 2) and for mains I had beef with mash (pic 3) and Cedric had veal brain, tongue and head (pic 4).

After dinner we did most of our souvenir shopping and had a night cap at the pub and off to bed! 

Damn I love Paris!
