Tlopi Tented Camp - Marakele National Park

Hello Journeyers!
WOW how I've missed you guys! But I'm back. I'm going to be honest, I have limited material to share with you, but that's just another reason to go do and see more that this beautiful country has to offer! Seeing as I started my new venture on the 1st of July 2014 we thought it would be a good idea to squeeze in a nice holiday before all the new changes happens.

As one part of our holiday was in Marakele National Park, they are part of SANParks. Cedric found Tlopi Tented Camp in the same reserve so that we won't have to do too much driving. We left Bela Bela (post to come) the Monday morning and were on our way towards Thabazimbi. We arrived at the reserve, checked in and we were finally in the bush. Our happy places! Cedric left out the part that the camp is not fenced. That he shared only once we paid. I freaked out just a little bit.

Marakele National Park, previously known as Kransberg National Park was founded in 1994 and lies in the heart of the Waterberg. The Camp has 9 Tents and they are situated next to a nice dam which gives you nice views of animals coming to drink or if you are a birding fanatic then you can spot some Kingfishers or even a Fish Eagle.

You can do your own game drives and we spent our days doing exactly that. We went to the viewing point one early morning and had some excitement with some lion tracks. We didn't see the lions. The view from up the mountain is something you have to experience as I cannot put it into words. It's beautiful and the views are never ending. It goes on for days and days.

Our evenings were spent by lighting the fire early and watching the sun set over the majestic mountain view that we had from our tent. We were lucky enough to spot the Ellies as we arrived and then had some road block problems with a mommy and baby Rhino. We later found out the mommy broke her back leg and passed away the Wednesday. *sob*

Please be careful of the monkeys, they love trying to get to your things. Anything food or shiny, make sure it's locked away! They look very cute but they can be a nuisance. They are also not scared of humans. One kept on trying to give Ced a run for his money. It was hilarious!

We had such an amazing time and was very sad when the time came to leave. This place is definitely on our "Visit again" list!

Rates:
We booked via Safari Now and we paid R1125 per Tent per night.

  1. Jis ek is jaloers!
