OJTE Star Rating

Hello Journeyers!
So I have been thinking. I will be doing many more travel / adventure posts.
I will be sharing what I like and don't like about places we've been to. No better way to show my interest in the place than a "star rating" at the end of the blog post!
Please remember that these ratings will be based on my own personal views and experiences of the place and not the actual ratings.

They will work as follows:
1 Star - The place was not to my liking. It was not worth the price. It was not neat and clean. We hardly saw any animals even though they advertised it. The hosts / owners were rude / unpleasent.
2 Stars - The place was okay. Not great but bearable. Will consider going back but wont be my 1st option.
3 Stars - The place was nice. The price was good. It was neat and clean. We saw some animals but heard them more. The views were nice and the owners / managers were friendly.
4 Star - The place was really nice. Great price. Spectacular surroundings with a wide variety of animals. The owners / managers were very friendly. Good service.
5 Star - Need I say more? Everything was PERFECT!!!! If you want to treat yourself go visit this place! You will not be disappointed!

I'm looking forward to read what all of your thoughts are! :)

Thank you for your undying support Journeyers!

Kohande Tented Camp

Hello Journeyers and welcome to my very first post of my new series called "Affordable Fridays".
The name says it all, but for those who don't understand. Here I will share fun and affordable places that you can visit. I won't necessarily physically share places I've been to but it's still nice if you are on a tight budget like us to know about places that won't break the bank.

I have shared this place before HERE, but we were there just after winter and it was still dry and dull, yes that is right I'm talking about Kohande Tented Camp. We went again this year as we missed the bush atmosphere so much after our island holiday and well frankly we just enjoy the place. Plus it does look completely different with the trees and bushes looking thick, green and healthy.

About
"Kohandè is situated in the scenic LEEUWKLOOF VALLEY CONSERVANCY in GAUTENG, just north-east of PRETORIA (32km from Sefako Makgatho(Zambesi drive)) at DEWAGENSDRIFT – in the heart of DINOKENG- which makes it the ideal destination for nature lovers.
Three luxury tents with on suite bathrooms provide accommodation for 2 adults each (sorry, no children allowed). A fully equipped kitchenette with fridge/freezer makes self catering a pleasure. Each tent is private with its own lovely panoramic view over the bushveld where you can relax and enjoy the extraordinary sunsets and listen to the call of jackals."

It is perfect for weekend breakaways for people who live in Gauteng, it's approximately 105km from Johannesburg {according to Google Maps - so please don't shoot me if I'm wrong}. As you drive in there are a few antelope breeders {I think} so you see quite a few interesting animals. Like the Gold Wildebeest and White Blesbok for example. Which are both beautiful animals. Althoug once you go into Kohande you don't see any animals. But the noises of these very shy animals are very intense at night. At one stage I could have sworn one of them were right behind me at the boma area. haha
And once again we heard the lions at night. I loved that. That must be one of my favourite things while there.

The view from the pool is even more spectacular in summer. Everything is so green and we spent most of the day lounging next to the pool while playing card games.

Things to do
There's not much you can do in Kohande except relax. But you can go for a hike or do some birdwatching.
Some of the nearby attractions include the Lion Camp, Golf, Hot Air Ballooning or Day Spa.

Things that made me happy
It is extremely neat and clean and the owners are very welcoming and warm.
You can hear lions at night! {I told you this was my favourite}
The view from the pool is very nice.

Things that made me sad
I wish we saw more animals during the day.

The price is R300 per person per night and you have to stay a minimum of 2 nights.

You can find them here

Please do share with me what you think of the place if you decide to go visit!

And my OJTE Star Rating verdict is......drum roll please!!!!!
As all of you know we have Mo-Landy {#molandy}, which is our car and now we have a little mascot. A small orange dodo who we called Mo-Landy {#mododo}. Feel free to follow them along with our travel one #ojte_travel.

Mauritius {Part 2}

Holy Cow! Is it only me or has this week been dragging?
It's ONLY Thursday! *yawn* I hope you guys enjoyed my Part 1 of our Holiday in Mauritius. And in case you have missed it, you can go find it HERE. But seriously now, even if you did see it, I know you want to see it again, so HERE it is.
After days of Christmas festivities, late nights and a memorable date night, Cedric and I were tugged away and halfway on our way to dreamland, when I could feel Cedric toss and turning. Now we have to wake up in a few hours and this woman needs her happy sleep or she turns into this ugly misserable blob of a thing to deal with. But the tossing continued. Eventually I fell asleep with it and as our alarm go off I hear. "I didn't sleep well" My mind responds with "no sh*t sherlock" but I kept that to myself. {que misserable blob}
Me: "I noticed you didn't sleep well boo boo, but why?" Ced: "We forgot to give Aimee and Sev my address and contact details to give to custome" Me: "Oh bleep! {me frantically texting Aimee praying that their roaming is working}"
As we arrive at the airport we wait....and wait some more. Tring tring. Ced: "Hello...yes this is him. Yes Aimee and Sev are coming to stay by me...bla bla bla"

And a few minutes later these two faces came walking out. Sighs of relief between Cedric and myself. So it ended with them being questioned and treated a bit like they have bombs strapped to them at customs till customs finally believed them and let them through. Note to self: ALWAYS remember to give ALL neccessary details to travelling partners. And that's the story of how Aimee and Sev were minutes away of being interogated by Mauritian Customs. But they arrived safely, they are through customs and now their / our holiday can begin!

With another Cyclone warning on it's way we made sure to take full advantage of the days that were filled with sunshine and warm weather. We spent our days lying by the pool and eating and drinking WAY too much! They arrived the Friday and we had beautiful weather.

The Saturday the boys joined some of Ced's friends for their annual boys get together. And murphys law. Aimee and I were stuck inside while watching the rain fall. But that didn't stop us from eating, catching up over some tea and snapping some gorgeous nature photos. After giving up with our cameras and their self timers while running up and down the terrace trying to get nice photos of us.

The next day it was crystal clear and sunny. Perfect! The guys were off to play some golf at Anahita and Aimee and myself took advantage of the yummy breakfast buffet and then hit the beach. Get our tans on you know! Whahahaha. Utter fail! We for one did NOT put suncream. And after a good hour and a half I would say we decided to hit the shade a bit. Shock and Horror as we looked at each other. We looked like bloody lobsters! So we decided to hide take a break from the sun and go watch the guys finish their game instead. With the sun eating us and cheering on our men we worked up quite and apetite and so we ended our day with a yummy lunch overlooking the ocean and drinking more wine.

Sev is a big fishing fan {FF?} hehe, and he and Cedric used every opportunity to do some fishing. I'm not such a big fan, well I can tolerate it. What I CAN'T cope with are the mozzies. Thousands of mozzies seeking my sweet South African blood! They were all over Aimee, Sev and myself. The more Peaceful Sleep and Tabard we would put on the more they will attack us. We seriously looked like weirdos doing some sort of monkey dance trying to get away from the blood suckers! So yes, that is why I only managed to go fishing once. But Sev did catch us a nice Kingfish which we cooked and ate that night for dinner!

And then all hell broke lose. Yes. The mean, moody and bitchy Johlet emerged. I don't know why but my moods do sometimes get the better of me and I want to apologise again to Aimee and Sev for having to put up with it! But in between the hissy fits and rainy weather we squeezed in a trip to Ile aux cerf. The most popular beach in Mauritius. With crystal clear water and a white sandy beach we spent the day floating in the shallow water, while staring at watching 2 ladies go topless accross from us. Not a pretty sight as I prefer mine to stay cozy and snuck hidden behind pretty colourful bikini tops. The guys sure didn't mind and Aimee and I had a good giggle while watching them "try" to do the whole subtle I'm looking at the "view" thing. FAIL! kwahahaha

Then on the night before entering 2014, the weather started turning on us once again. The wind picked up. But that did not dampen our party moods. We had a great dinner at Cedric's parents house which they generously offered to us for the night. We watched a spectacular display of fireworks from Le Touessrok. {I wanted to put up a video I took but I cannot sensor some of the words of amazement that pops up} Cedric's parents invited us to join them after midnight at Four Seasons and then we went to end the night at Anahita. The hotels were lit up in the prettiest colours! They sure know how to throw a New Years bash! I can tell you that!

I would say we looked pretty darn good for people who went to bed at 05:30! And no my eyes are not red because I'm tired. I actually got a eye infection the 30th! Itchy burny eyes while on holiday is horrible! Trust me. I had to go get S4 drops from the doc when I arrived back in SA and after already sitting with this for 10 days it finally started to get better. As we entered the new year so did the cyclone.

Cedric and I went for a drive just to go see how bad it was getting outside and this was the result. It wasn't THAT bad. But it was only warning 2. And I can only imagine how much worse it looks when it hits warning 4. Thank goodness the Cyclone hit Reunion Island {sorry for the people there} and this was only after affects of it. This still did not stop us from having a massive braai with friends the evening and making the most of our holiday.

Strange to think just 2 days later the weather was like this...perfectly clear. And murphys law that this was on the day we left. Murphy you suck! Big time! But still, even with all the ups and downs {that would be my moods and the weather} we had a great holiday.
Thank you to my boo boo for the perfect holiday and to your family for always going out of their way to make it extra special!
Thank you to Aimee and Sev for joining us! Sorry we did not do more but there's always next time....

Airline Ticket Prices - R5 000.00 - R10 000 {depending what period you go}
Best time to go from MY point of view? May - Sept
Why? The weather is still nice but it's out of season so it's more affordable.
If you are going to stay in a hotel. I would suggest take full board and shop around for prices.

Mauritius {Part 1}

Happy Hump day Journeyers!
I cannot believe we are already in February and next week we will be celebrating the all so popular Valentines Day. To be honest, I have no idea how I feel about this day. On the one hand I fall for all the love going around and on the other hand I see it as just a big money making scheme!

Today I want to share with you guys the first few days of our amazing December holiday in Mauritius. This was the first year that I spent Christmas with Cedric, and well his family since we've started dating!
I was extremely nervous, like anyone will be when celebrating something this big with a family as big as his. And in all honesty I had such a wonderful time and the nerves just floated away as the first dinner approached.

Cedric surprised me by upgrading us to Business Class as part of my Christmas Gift. This was my very first experiece in BC, aside from working it in my Flight Attendant days and I was very impressed. I could sleep like normal. No neck cramps, embarrassing head nods or strange knees squashed to your chin moments. You are greeted in your seat with proper champagne or orange juice (I obviously went for the champers - have to do this right you know) and then I was out. Slept straight through food service and woke up just as we were about to land.

We were welcomed to a sunny and very humid Mauritius and it showed off a bit by giving us views and days like this. Although we were expected to get the after affects of a Cyclone that was passing we were lucky enough to not get it that bad. A bit of rain and cloudy days. But still humid and we could still enjoy the pool. Who's afraid of a bit of rain?
We arrived at 8am and Cedric's friends were expected to arrive at 12 for his surprise birthday party! SUCCESS!!! He was shocked and very surprised (no one spoiled it beforehand), his face was priceless and I loved watching him catch up with old friends. I also loved meeting most of the friends that I have not met before. The Mauritians truly are great people!

Our next day (22nd) we woke up and went for a nice walk through the property. I was running more as Cedric took me through low hanging trees with dried leaves covering the ground like a blanket. I did not trust walking through those leaves. My mind likes playing tricks on me and all the while I was thinking about what was going to jump out at me next. He just shook his head. But I did manage to take some beautiful photos. It's so green and fresh. And the COCONUT trees give you the ulitmate Island feeling. {Funny story. I properly hammered my name with a plank when I in all seriousness asked Cedric's father; "Are these melons on the tree ready to eat?" Him responding; "What melons" Me; "These right here on this tree." (me pointing to the coconut tree) Him; "Ummm {almost rolling on the floor with laughter} no that's coconuts, you know - CO-CO-NUT - CO-CO-NUT TREE" To which his mother replied; "Shame she's from the city". Not my best moment I tell you. And that's the story of how coconuts were called melons from that day on.}
After our hike we packed a few things and off we went to the centre of the island (Floreal) for the Festivities to begin.

On the 24th Cedric decided to go show me a different side of the island a bit and we stopped by his uncle on the West Coast to say hello. On our way back Cedric decided to take a different route and we went over the Chamarel Mountain on our way back.
We decided to stop for a nice lunch on the mountain at Le Chamarel Restaurant and the views litterally take your breath away. This truly is a beautiful place. Do yourself a favour. If you ever go to Mauritius go visit that part of the Island. It's something different. You can also find a very popular tourist attraction there - 7 Coloured Earths. We unfortunately did not stop there as I was starting to get car sick from all the twists and turns up to the mountain. So I just wanted to get off that mountain. I know but next time I will Take 2!

All 3 Christmas Dinner/Lunch was amazing, the attention to detail with the table decor to the food was perfect and beautiful! Cedric's mother is very talented! She can turn something that I would throw away and see as junk into a masterpiece!
Every night turned into a early 2am - 3am party. On the 24th at 3am, I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. We have been going bed early mornings since we arrived and it was catching up to me. And to be honest. If South Africans thought that we know how to party, newsflash, we don't. The Mauritians kicked my butt. And that's exactly what I told them as I said my good nights. I need to pack myself a case of Play's next time I go. But it was so much fun and I will do it ALL over again. With a Play in my hand of course!

And we had a pet! A giant tortoise who we called Timothy Traddle. I think. It actually had a few names between all of us. But it was so big and it reminded me of that cartoon I watched when I was young.

After all the family and friends get togethers we needed some alone time and decided to have a date night before my friends arrived the next morning. Cedric's father suggested we go for dinner at Anahita and both of us spent the evening communicating with hmmm's and ahhh's as we had our dinner. The food was impeccable and this was definitely the highlight of my holiday. If there are any big golf fans out there reading this. GO BOOK A STAY THERE NOW! With a Ernie Els designed Golf Course you are sure to have your socks knocked off by the beauty of this resort. You won't be disappointed. Trust me!

And with my bestie arriving the next day, we find out that there's another cyclone approaching. Let's pray the weather plays along for their part of the trip. To find out how it turned out. Stay tuned and watch this space...

#Confused

Happy Tuesday Journeyers!
Okay I really really really need all the advice I can get right about now.
I am at this very moment very confused as to what exactly I want to do with my blog. As all of you know I thought about doing a "Travel Fact Tuesday" segment here, but then I thought why not rather a "Reasons to visit..." post, but then I realised that I will be completely going away from my personal experiences that I've always been sharing with all of you.
I want to share fun and true to myself moments not things I found off Google.
So this is where you guys come in.
Do I share interesting facts/places that I've never been to myself (once a week) or do you rather want to read about places I've seen and things I've been doing personally?

I'm as confused as I was in this photo! Is this cupcake real or a soap???
I cannot wait to hear your ideas and thoughts!
